Lovelyish, Annie Reviews: Waxelene

Reviewer: Annie Strole, Lovelyish Website:  I used to be one of those people that swore by Vaseline. I used it for my lips, dry patches on my skin, on my cuticles, to remove makeup and for whatever possible use you could find. Then I found out that Vaseline’s main ingredient, petrolatum, has been reported to cause breast tumors, suffocate the skin and cause long term inflammatory responses. Not cool. Luckily, there is now an amazing Vaseline alternative, Waxelene, and I couldn’t be happier about it. This stuff is incredible! I got one small tube of Waxelene (pronounced like Vaseline but with ‘wax’ at the beginning) to carry with me, and then a jar that I keep on my nightstand. This product makes an amazing lip balm, but I also love to layer it over lipstick to give a glossy finish. Waxelene has salvaged my raggedy cuticles and I even like to use it under my eyes at night for added moisture. I have a seriously dry under eye area! Crafted in California, this wonder balm is comprised of high quality beeswax, organic soy bean oil, 100% natural vitamin E oil and organic rosemary oil. I was nervous that the rosemary oil would give it a strange scent (I typically prefer to keep my rosemary in the kitchen), but instead it just works to soothe and calm the skin while the product maintains a clean, almost honey-like scent. What I love most about Waxelene is that not only is it all natural, high quality and even more effective than it’s unnatural counterpart, but the price point is super low. Five bucks will get you a tube of the stuff, while a two ounce jar is only $7. For those of you who become as hooked as I am you can buy a NINE ounce jar for $16! Lovelies, would you trade your Vaseline for Waxelene? Beauty Breakdown: Lazy Late-Summer Beauty By Annie Strole August 20, 2013 @ 1:00 pm I don’t know about y’all, but the end of the summer leaves me feeling pretty lazy when it comes to my makeup. I’m about to go BACK to school, start working as a resident makeup artist at a beauty boutique on the Upper East Side and have a number of other projects that I’ll be working on starting in September. Who has time for an super-detailed makeup routine?! To achieve the perfect lazy late-summer look you’ll need the following items or anything similar: Apply a lightweight concealer under your eyes, on the bridge of your nose and in the corners of your nose. Blend that in using a finger. Dust a loose powder foundation all over to even out your complexion, and build it in areas that need a little extra help. Use a large, dense, fluffy brush to apply a matte bronzer to your cheekbones, forehead and on your neck. For your eyes, you can apply a bit of your matte bronzer to your lids or leave them bare. Apply a black, waterproof liner to your upper and lower waterline and finish off with a coat of glossy black mascara. Use your fingers to apply a rose colored cream blush to your cheekbones, and dab a bit on your lips as well. For a supple finish, apply a bit of lip balm over top. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Waxelene, which is like an all-natural Vaseline alternative (stay posted for a review soon!).
